The whole point of the HoM was to reward players in gw2 for all the time they put into gw1 so you shouldn't expect to just max it in no time at all.

Working on titles is the best way to get points for a new player because they require you to actually play through the game. Money to buy armour is easy to come by just by playing the game. just remember to salvage everything.

Hero armour/pets you get by playing the game.

The weapons you can get easily by doing the war in kryta content.

Mini's are more difficult because you havnt had 5+ years with multiple characters to acquire them normally but you can get a unique mini by working on the cross campaign treasure hunt for the mini black moa and 1st-2nd year presents are dirt cheap these days and are even quite often given away.

You haven't done all the side quests have you? only primary quests I'm sure. Do more content = get more gold. I prolly had over 15 before completing even the first campaign.
And as others said... try to enjoy the game story and such, don't just rush HoM, that takes a bit of time and commitment.

I suggest maybe doing all/some of the optional/side quests if you don't feel like farming.
Get the other campaigns, not just for HoM but for more content, more fun and more story. That opens up for more titles of the kind that does not cost you any gold and they are not too hard to get.

Really, its pretty easy just to make gold by playing through the game, doing missions, dungeons, vanquishes, etc. Iv got over 30 in my HoM (32 i believe...), and the only time that I ever farmed was to get obby armor for my rit. Plus, I have also a large sum of money on hero runes/weapons, my wintergreen caster set, and a few other "expensive" items that I have (like my Voltaic spear), all without farming. It really isn't hard at all to get money if you simply take your time playing through the game while doing quests, and then play dungeons, missions, and vanquishes in hard mode after beating the campaigns.

Two means of earning a steady income are the Z-missions/quests and doing FA/JQ for imperial faction which you can turn into Balth faction which you can use to buy Z-Keys. Z-keys can sell for 5k each or more very quickly.

There's a very good guide here (http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/c...t10454341.html) describing how you should tackle each monument.

I'd suggest that you play through the campaigns, WiC and WoC before doing anything else because it's fun and you'll learn the game get good herobuilds etc. Plus you'll stack up a bit of cash.

Then you should go about trying to get all the free things that you can get. Black moa chick nets 2 points, it's a challenge but not impossible by any means. Getting 7/8 in the hero armor monument shouldn't be that expensive either if you can complete glint's challenge and some fun challenge missions in NF. Titles are free and you should be able to get at least 5, netting some nice points.
the armor monument is purely about money - but you get nice looks out of it! By playing through all the campaigns you should have quite some materials to start off with, I suggest you look at that and see which armors you can get cheapest.
The weapons monument is mostly about money. A tormented weapon might be a bit expensive, but a destroyerweapon should be manageble. You should already have a opressor weapon by playing through WiC, doing the daily wanted quest/running through WiC again on another character will net you more free oppressor weapons.

If you do zaishen elite every day you'll earn ~6k/day, it adds up really fast, 2 weeks and you've got 84k, or 16 zkeys (almost 17 worth ~5k each).

Thanks for the pointers. I did buy all the games so I will play through them all like you guys suggested and just enjoy it. I realized jumping in and getting points was unrealistic.

Because of this you are limited in:

1) skills
2) proffession (Assassin, Ritualist for farmers)
3) heroes
4) biggest marketplace Kamadan
5) access to other continents (many titles here and endgame DoA farm)

what option you still have:

1) trading in Eotn and LA
2) running dungeons, missions
3) farming materials and making consumables
4) Zaishen quests
5) special events and collectors (Nicholas the Traveler)

my recommendation, be prepared for Halloween and wintersday, with some luck and active participation you can earn in week same welth like farming half year.

Enjoy the game, Do all that is fun to do and pretty soon you'll get all the titles without the "stress"

its suppose to be fun, not grind to catch up !

i haven't completed all that is necessary for the HOM either and i've played for over 6 years!

I have to disagree with Shadowfell, for a newbie, just playing the game can actually provide an ok-ish income. I just did all the quests from second part of WoC and it netted me about 20k in cash, 6 lockpicks, ruby, sapphire, diamond, onyx, and those weird thingies we can't use yet. For me, something as tiny as that goes unnoticed in my bank, but to some people that's actually good money...

Actually some aspects of the quest to fill your HOM have become easier/cheaper.

1. Drunk Title - in the not too distant past, alcohol could not be spammed. That meant you either had to grind your way through thousands of minutes either squating somewhere clicking away at an alc item every x minutes or try to remember to do it while youre doing quests/missions...or you rely on key loggers that theoretically put you at risk of betting axed by anet.

2. Survivor Title - also not to distant if you died on a character you would no longer be able to get this title on that character. So depending how good you are and how lucky you are you would often have to grind through characters (which wastes time, money and continuity) to get this title. Now? If you fail, you dont have to start a new character, you just retry.

3. Mini Pets - the price of mini pets are the lowest its ever been. You can get your hands on 1st, 2nd and even 3rd year unded minis (all the white ones and ma good number of the purple ones) for pocket change. You can fill a good percentage of whats needed for very little gold. Stick to early year minis as much as possible. Even green and gold minis vary significantly in price).

4. Overall title hunting - once GW allowed players to use a full party of heroes (another relatively recent change in the game in the lifespan of GW) most areas of the game that youll need to vanquish for a plethora of the titles became a cake walk. I would suggest getting the other two campaigns and buying the four skill unlock packs (basically so your heroes have full access to all the skills so you can run the more popular hero builds on your 7 hero teams.

5. FoW, UW, Urgoz, Deep, DoA, etc. (ie elite missions) - these are extremely popular among the more seasoned players as a way to make money and as the last bastionof challenge that some feel is left in the game. You can try to latch on and tag along with folks to complete these and get your titles for them pretty quickly. Your guild/ alliance would be the best place to start since theyll be more prone to understand if you screw up here or there). If youre not in a guild join one. If you are in one but they dont do it you may want to think about joining another guild that does (there are guilds that focus on title hunting among other things).

6. Zaishen Stuff - as has been mentioned by a lot of folks, doing the daily zaishen mission, vanq, bounty, etc is a great way of not only helping you along with various titles but also as a source of income. Right now especially with the intro of Envoy weapons (which are fed by zaishen coins) the prices of z coins (silver and gold) are at an all time hi. You can sell these to other players as a way to make money.

7. War in Kryta bounties - also mentioned by folks...this is a relatively good way to get a good amount of whats needed for your HoM weapons requirements without having to spend money.

8. Holiday/festival stuff - ask around and learn what the best ways to farm stuff is...but please avoid any ideas of using bots if someone suggests it. Not worth the risk (most of those guys have second, third, fourth accounts that they use for that so unlesd you want to waste real money that way avoid it!!!! Getting banned wont help.

9. Buying and selling - "Spamadan FTW!!" Lol. Most of my money has been made this way. Depending on how quickly and well you get to know what things are worth you can make a lot this way. Whether its buying 400 mysterious tonics for 50g each (20k) and selling it for almost 240k) which i did last month to buying a q9 inscribable chaos axe for 40k and selling it for 100k (have done that a few times)...to even just buying an armbrace from someone who doesnt want to "waste time" in Kamadan for 20e and sellingit for 22-23e...there is potentially great money to be had. And i dont have to resort to lying and cheating like some powersellers do (so i get to keep my conscience clear lol).

That said...obviously nothing is easy and maxing HoM will cost a fortune in the end but if thats what you want then go for it. Otherwise...as a everyone has said enjoy the game.
